Pachathuruthu Award

Haritha Kerala Mission Award for Koratty Gandhigram Hospital
1st Place at the District Level in the "Other Institutions" Category

Thrissur: The 'Pachathuruthu' (Green Islet) project, implemented across the state under the leadership of the Haritha Kerala Mission to combat climate change and restore the environment, has received state-level recognition. Currently, there are 4,030 green islets spanning 1,272.89 acres across Kerala, with Thrissur district alone hosting 240 green islets covering 50.21 acres.

This year, the Haritha Kerala Mission announced special awards to honor exemplary work in conserving and maintaining green islets across various sectors, including local self-governing bodies, colleges, schools, sacred groves (Kavukal), and other institutions.

In the "Other Institutions" category, the Thrissur district-level first prize was awarded to the Green Islet project implemented through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) on the premises of Gandhigram Hospital in Koratty Grama Panchayat.

A total of 270 tree saplings across 23 different varieties are being preserved at this site.

Rooted in green principles, this initiative serves as a model for environmental awareness and community participation.
